Rose Iacono Raniolo, a native and lifelong resident of North Tarrytown (now Sleepy Hollow), died December 4, 2018 at the age of 90. She was the daughter of Joseph and Betty (Vallarelli) Iacono. She was born in North Tarrytown on March 14, 1928.
Rose graduated from North Tarrytown High School in 1946, where she was a cheerleader. During high school she worked at the Adams dress factory on Orchard Street in Tarrytown and did part-time work at Readers’ Digest during Christmas time.
In 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, John F. Raniolo, at St. Teresa’s Church in North Tarrytown, three years after he was honorably discharged from service in World War II.
From 1946 to 1955, Rose worked at Washington Irving Trust Company, which later became County Trust, on the corner of McKeele Avenue and Broadway in North Tarrytown in the mortgage department. Later in her life, Rose substituted for teaching assistants at the John Paulding school in Tarrytown.
Rose gave birth to four children, Robert, Gary, Barbara Jean and David. She dedicated her life to caring for and loving her husband, children, and later, her six grandchildren. Rose and John were married for 67 years before his passing on January 29, 2016. Rose was, and always will be, the matriarch of the Raniolo family. She was loved by all those that met her.
Rose is survived by her sons Dr. Robert J. Raniolo (and wife, Debra J. Zambrano), practicing surgeon and Chief of General Surgery at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, NY; Honorable Gary J. Raniolo (and his wife, Georgeann Adams), Town Justice of the Town of Yorktown and practicing attorney-at-law in Tarrytown, NY; and David J. Raniolo (and fiancé Catherine Roberts). She was also the loving grandmother of Gary, Danielle, Megan, Ashley, Robert and Heather Rose Raniolo. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Lillian Allevi residing in California, and her childhood best friends Mafalda LaCaruba Tornello and Caroline Malandrino Amenta, who are also daughters of Italian immigrants and natives of North Tarrytown. Rose was predeceased by her lifelong love, her husband, John F. Raniolo, and her own little angel in heaven, her daughter, Barbara Jean Raniolo.
