Rosa Fitz-Gibbon was a longtime resident of Tarrytown and died at the Poughkeepsie Pines Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 6, 2018 after a long illness.
She was born in Cuba on March 19, 1932 and came to the United States with her family in October of 1969. She was an active member of the Hope Presbyterian Church in Tarrytown and later an active member of Ossining First Presbyterian Church, where she played the piano for the Hispanic Congregation for many years.
She worked for Mallory Battery during the early seventies and later for Duracell Corporation. She attended Mercy College Night School as an adult and acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. She later worked as an accountant for Stella Rae Corp. and also worked for Higham Press, Inc. in Pleasantville, NY.
She is survived by a son Jose Fitz-Gibbon, Jr., a daughter Neysa Calderin, two sisters Miriam Fitz-Gibbon and Neisa De La Torre, grandchildren Melody Kivney, Kevin Calderin, Michael Fitz-Gibbon, Andrew Calderin and William Calderin, great grandchildren Mallory Kivney, Sawyer Calderin, Parker Calderin and Griffin Kivney; nephews Tony Hernandez, Gerardo Fitz-Gibbon, Jorge Fitz-Gibbon, George De La Torre and Aurelio Voltaire Hernandez; nieces Yolanda Suarez, Rose De La Torre and Lisa Hernandez. In addition, she is survived by numerous first and second cousins as well as many friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon at Coffey Funeral Home, then followed by interment in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
