Marie Battista Badagliacca, a longtime resident of Irvington, passed away peacefully at home on September 18, 2018 at the age of 93. She was born in North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow), N.Y. on October 22, 1924, the daughter of Antonio and Mariangela DeVico Battista.
Mrs. Badagliacca selflessly devoted her life’s energy to her family – as a daughter and sibling, and then as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She was a woman of unshakable faith, was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington, and her pride as an Italian-American and belief in the goodness of the United States was boundless. Among her talents and joys in life were the opportunities to cook, bake, and knit, and she generously did so for both her family and those who had the good fortune to cross her path in life. From childhood to her final days she was a faithful fan of her beloved New York Yankees and enjoyed reminiscing about many of the memorable games she attended.
She is survived by a loving and grateful family: her brother, Anthony J. Battista (Janis) of Tarrytown, N.Y., her daughters, Mary Anne Benedict of Somers, N.Y. and Karen M. Greco (John) of Hawthorne, N.Y., her son, Vincent J. Badagliacca, Jr. (Lynda) of North Salem, N.Y., three cherished grandchildren, Melissa Anne Greco (Aoon Jaffri), John V. Greco, III (Jennifer), Caroline Jill Badagliacca, and two adored great-grandchildren, Isabella Rose Greco and John V. Greco, IV. She was predeceased by her sisters, Virginia Seminara (Mario), Jessie Badagliacca, and Mafalda Chebetar (Lotsy).
Visiting hours will be at the Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday from 4PM to 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 16 North Broadway, Irvington, N.Y. on Friday at 10:00 with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
