J. Oscar Alers

Dr. J. Oscar Alers died 4/26/18 at age 85 in Tarrytown, NY. He was a proud graduate of Clear Pool Camp, Madison Sq. Boys Club, Seward H.S., City College, Harvard MA and Cornell PhD. Prof of Sociology at Boston College and Baruch College. Achievements beyond all expectations of P.R. kids from 28th St., NYC. Oscar never forgot the block and cherished his friends, his P.R. family from Lares and San Sebastian & his brothers & sisters in NY.

Most of all he loved his wife of 61 years Miriam & their sons Neil (Leah) & Scott (Sheila) & his grandchildren Gabriela, Alexa & Justin. He traveled the world with his family, living in the Andes of Peru, then in Lima & later in Bangkok.

He loved music from P.R. Danzas to Kechak from Bali to Rene Fleming & Vivaldi at Bellas Artes. Amapola (his mother’s favorite) to Return to Sorrento (his father’s favorite) were special to him. Name the song and he would sing it. He had a beautiful voice which his sons were lucky to inherit. He was a special person and as time goes by, he will always be with us.

Visitation Sunday  4/29 from 2PM to 6PM at Coffey Funeral Home 91 N. Broadway Tarrytown, NY where services will be held on Monday at 10:00AM.
