Frank Babic of Monroe, NC and formerly of North Tarrytown died May 16, 2017 at the age of 99. He was born on Feb. 15, 1918 in Hrnciarovce, Czechoslovakia and was one of 6 children born to Ludovit and Agnes Babic.

He came to America in 1936 at age 18.  He lived in N. Tarrytown on Andrews Lane with Magdalena and John Horecky and worked in John Horecky’s ice business. Frank played goalie for N.T. and N.Y. soccer teams and also fought Golden Gloves.

He married Emily Klestinec in Yonkers on 2/15/41. He entered the U. S. Army in Dec. 1942 and rose to rank of Gunnery Staff Sargent assigned to Panama Canal protection. He received an Honorable Discharge in Dec, 1945.

Frank worked for GM for 41 years as a millwright, earning many awards for methods and improvements.

Frank was one of 6 founding members of W.I. Boat Club. He loved bowling, boating, fishing and raising dogs. He was also a die hard Yankee fan. He was an active member of Slovak National Sokols, local Lodge 114 at 155 Beekman Ave.

In 1996, he and Emily moved to ‘Slovak Gardens’ (Winter Park, FL) and in 2005, they  moved in with family (Monroe, NC) where he lived until moving into assisted living in 2015.  He kept active with lawn care, flowers and dog petting.

Frank is survived by wife Emilia, daughter Emily Terrone and son Frank Babic. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Vincent and Michael Terrone, Brad Babic and Marissa Tome, as well as 6 great grandchildren: Douglas, Vincent, Christian and Natalie Terrone and Brynn and Taylor Babic.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM when funeral services will begin. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
