Francis J. ‘Frank’ Demers, a longtime resident of Tarrytown died July 4, 2018, at the age of 88. Born in New York City on June 20, 1930, he was the son of Albert and Anna O’Brien Demers. After graduating from Fordham University with his BA, he served honorably in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He then returned to continue his studies, earning a MA in Sociology from Fordham and his PhD in History from Columbia University. He went on to have a long career in education and was a professor at Marymount College in Tarrytown for over 35 years. After retirement, he taught and tutored women at the Bedford Correctional Facility.
On December 27, 1970, he married Giuseppa ‘Pina’ Fofi in Gubbio, Italy. They settled in Tarrytown where they raised their family. Frank was a parishioner of Transfiguration Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a volunteer for Phelps Hospice. In the 1980’s Frank served on the Tarrytown Board of Trustees.
In addition to his loving wife Pina, he is survived by his sons John (Cindy) of Alexandria, VA and Mark (Julie) of Trumbull, CT as well as his grandchildren Elizabeth, Matthew, James and Daniel. He is also survived by his brother Jerome of the Bronx.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday from 3PM to 7 PM. His Funeral Mass will be on Monday at Transfiguration Church at 10:30.
