Florence Croke Gilroy a lifelong resident of Tarrytown died at home on July 13,2019 surrounded by her loving daughters. Florence was born March 24, 1928 to Ethel Higle and William Croke at the Tarrytown Hospital.
Florence graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1946. On February 23, 1952 she married John Gilroy, a member of the Tarrytown Police Department, at the Church of the Transfiguration. Florence was employed by the General Motors accounting department and was the Village of Tarrytown water clerk for 25 years retiring in 1998. She enjoyed being a member of the Transfiguration Seniors and Transfiguration Women’s Club. Florence was active at Transfiguration School as class mother and Girl Scout leader.
Florence loved the Hudson River and Tarrytown where her roots date back five generations.
She is survived by daughters Eileen (William Marinelli), Patricia (James F. Janos), Janice (Bruce Bloom) and Maura (David White), grandchildren Gregory Janos (Leanne), Michael Janos (Christina), Matthew Bloom (Dana), Erin Bloom, Maggie Bloom and Brendan Marinelli and 5 great grandchildren. Florence was predeceased by her husband, John (1972) and brothers Robert and Harold.
The family would like to thank the caring team from Hospice of Westchester and her full-time dedicated care giver, Anna.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Wednesday July 17, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be held July 18, 2019 at 10:30AM at the Church of the Transfiguration with interment to follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery
