Fan Tai Foung peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, with her family at her bedside. She was born in China in 1919. Early in her marriage, she worked with her husband, Pon Shek Foung, at the family’s textile factory in Hong Kong. The family moved to the United States in 1956 and settled in Far Rockaway, New York.
After her husband’s untimely death in 1958, Fan Tai successfully raised seven children, Hope, Casey, Steven, Ann, Susan, James, and Jane. At that time, they ranged in age from 16 years to 9 months. Fan Tai was a great advocate of education and the children all graduated from colleges, some earning advanced professional degrees. Her children and their families work in professions that include business, medicine, law, dentistry, investment banking, computer software, nutritional science, naturopathic medicine, and internet startup companies.
She moved to San Francisco in 1974, and in 2006 she returned to New York.
Fan Tai's eldest son, Casey, passed away in 1996. Fan Tai is survived by her six children and their spouses, Casey's spouse, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
