Charles W. Carlson, of Pocantico Hills died February 15, 2018 at the age of 87. Having been born in Tarrytown and raised in East Irvington, Charlie spent his whole life in this area. He was born on November 17, 1930 to Hans and Julia Cifersky Carlson. He graduated from Irvington High School and went on to serve in the Air National Guard of the United States Air Force. Charles had been an Officer with the Westchester County Police until he became a florist and operated the Elmwood Greenhouses in White Plains for many years until he retired.
He was very active in many areas over the years. He was a member of the Union Church in Pocantico Hills where he sang in the choir. He was a member of the Pocantico Hills Fire Department where he served in many capacities including Chief of Department. He belonged to the Ex-Chiefs Association of Sleepy Hollow. He was also an avid bowler.
Charlie lived simply and enjoyed his life to the fullest. He loved spending time in Lake George at his home in Ticonderoga with his beloved wife Georgiana (Zelyez). They also enjoyed vacationing in St. Maarten every year to relax after the very busy holiday seasons. Charlie was loved by all who knew him and he’ll be missed tremendously.
Charlie is survived by his loving children Linda (Michael) Bassett of Ossining, Charles (Nancy) Carlson of White Plains and Nancy (Bill) Schellhas of Shrub Oak. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren Nicolas and Elise Carlson, Steven De Sisto and Robert Schellhas and his great grandsons Nathan and Benjamin Carlson, as well as his sister-in-law Gisela Carlson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Georgiana in 2006 and his brother Roland.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Monday from 3PM to 8PM. Funeral Services will be at Union Church Pocantico Hills on Tuesday at 10:00 AM with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
