Angelo Fortugno, a long time resident of Yonkers died peacefully on September 10, 2019 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie at the age of 88. The proud son of Italian immigrants, Arcangelo Fortugno and Lauretta Fortugno (Giordano), he was born February 9, 1931 in the Bronx, NY, the youngest of seven children all of whom pre-deceased him.
After graduating from high school, he served his country honorably in the Army during the Korean War. In 1954 he married his loving and devoted wife of nearly 65 years, Theresa Fortugno (Liso) on November 28, 1954 at Our Lady of Mercy Church in the Bronx. She survives him, as well as their four loving children; Angelo, Theresa Ann, Laura (Frank) and Michael (Johanna); nine loving grandchildren Michelle and John (Theresa Ann), Christina, Frank, Michael (Laura and Frank) and Michael, Marissa, Madelyn and Louis (Michael and Johanna) and six cherished great-grandchildren; Thomas, Kiara, Kadan, Carter (Michelle), Nicholas, and Dominic (Christina and Nick).
For nearly forty years he and his brothers Anthony and John were proprietors of Mt. Vernon Lumber Company in Mt. Vernon, NY. In his younger years he was an avid hunter as well as bowler. Besides spending time with his family his greatest joy in life was to root for his beloved New York Yankees.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Friday September 13, 2019 from 4PM-8PM. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Church of the Transfiguration in Tarrytown, NY at 10:30AM.
