Margaret Mahoney Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Mahoney, a beacon of love and faith, passed away at the age of 93 on February 13, 2024, due to natural causes. Born on January 4, 1931, in the Bronx, NY, Peggy lived a life marked by passion, dedication, and the warmth of her Irish heritage. Her final days were spent in Wappingers Falls, NY, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life well lived.

Peggy's journey began as the pride of her Bronx neighborhood, where she was known for her vibrant spirit and loving heart.  She carried these traits with her as she pursued  her education, earning a Bachelor's degree from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, NY.  Peggy's academic achievements were a testament to her intelligence and determination, qualities that would define her throughout her life.

Her professional life was marked by a commitment to nurturing others.  As a homemaker, Peggy created a warm and inviting home that became a sanctuary for family and friends.  She extended her caring nature to the community as a teacher's aide with BOCES Southern Westchester, where she touched the lives of many students with her patience and kindness.

Her husband Joseph Mahoney, US Navy Veteran and retired NYPD detective predeceased her in 1987.

Peggy's faith was the cornerstone of her existence.  She was deeply involved in church activities, where her passion for service and community shone brightly.  Her involvement in Irish cultural events brought her immense joy, as she cherished her heritage and the opportunity to celebrate it with others.

She is survived by her loving son, Patrick, and devoted daughter, Ellen.  Peggy was a cherished grandmother to Michael Pierre, Joseph Sroka, Samantha Sroka, and Bridgette Sroka.  Her role as a grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and she instilled in her grandchildren the values of love, faith, and the importance of family.  Peggy leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Those who knew Peggy would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and passionate.  She approached every moment with a full heart and a desire to make a positive impact.  Her presence was a comfort to all, and her ability to listen and provide wise counsel will be deeply missed.

Peggy's legacy is one of unwavering love and dedication to those around her.  Her impact on her family, friends, and community will continue to resonate long after her with fondness and pride.

As we bid farewell to Margaret "Peggy" Mahoney, we do so with gratitude for the time we were blessed to share with her.  Her spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of the lives she touched.  Peggy's journey on earth has concluded, but her story----etched in the hearts of those who loved her----will never end.

In keeping with Peggy's enduring spirit, her will be celebrated in a manner that honors her deep love for family, her faith, and her Irish roots.  She will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY, where she will be remembered as a woman who lived gracefully, loved generously, and left an indelible mark on the world.

Goodbye, dear Peggy.  Your life was a testament to the beauty of a heart given freely to others, and you will be remembered always for the love and light you brought into this world.
