John DelCarpine of Tarrytown peacefully passed away in his home on March 1, 2010.He was born the 12th child of Cosmo and Louise DelliCarpini on June 23, 1935 in Harlem, NY, where he grew up on 111th St and 2nd Ave.
John moved to Tarrytown in May of 1964 when he married his beloved wife Ada Malandrino.He was very active in local civic organizations.He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of ColumbusSt. Elmo Council 318, Past Vice President of ITALO, and member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Sleepy Hollow.He was also an active member of the Jefferson Park Boys Club throughout his life.
After his discharge from the army, John became a chef.He was well known for his work at Malandrino’s Deli & Restaurant on Beekman Ave, the Greenburgh Nutrition Program (Meals on Wheels), and at various church events like the annual bazaar and spaghetti dinners.He also retired from General Motors in 1990.
He is survived by his wife Ada, daughters Louise Cherico, Joanne DelCarpine, and Sara Stern, 4 grandchildren, siblings Millie Benevento, Sr. Helen DelCarpine, Sr. Louise DelCarpine, and Cosmo DelCarpine, and well over 100 extended family members.He brought much joy to all whose lives he touched, and he will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. His Funeral Mass will be on Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00 with interment to follow in SleepyHollowCemetery.
