Anthony J. Pollack, a longtime resident of Tarrytown died July 27, 2010 at Rosary Hill Home. He was 88. Born in Czechoslovakia on September 29, 1921, he was the son of Egit and Maria Havlechek Pollack. His family came to the United States when Tony was 10 and he was raised in North Tarrytown. He graduated from N. Tarrytown High School in 1941. Tony served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He attained the rank of corporal and received the American Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

On September 20, 1947 he married Emily Surovich in St. Anselm’s Church in the Bronx.

Tony began a career with the Postal Service where he was a Letter Carrier in Tarrytown for over 37 years.

Tony was a Life Active member of Washington Engine Co. #2 with over 50 years of service, a member of the VFW Post 1939 and a member of the Tarrytown Seniors.   

Tony’s lifelong passion was golf. He played until the course closed for the season and then continued to hit golf balls at Peabody Field until the next season began. He was an excellent player who twice scored a hole-in-one; an accomplishment most people never attain.

Tony is survived by Emily, his wife of 62 years, his son Thomas (Jayne) of Lansing, MI; his daughter Nancy (Gary) McBride of Lighthouse Point, FL and his daughter-in-law Clarice Pollack of Tarrytown. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as his brother Frank of Clarks Summit, PA. His son, Richard died in 2001.

Visitation will be at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9PM. His Funeral Mass will be Saturday at St. Teresa of Avila Church at 10:00 with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Rosary Hill Home 600 Linda Avenue Hawthorne, NY 10532, would be appreciated.
