Stephen P. Karac

Stephen P. Karac a lifelong resident of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow died April 13, 2016 at the age of 86. He was born in Tarrytown on March 30, 1930 and was the son of Ignac and Mary Slavik Karac.

Steve had a long career with County Trust Bank, having retired as a Purchasing Manager. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and remained in the Reserves until 1957.

He was married to Helene Durocher who predeceased him in 1985.

He grew up in Holy Cross Church and later was a parishioner of Transfiguration Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Elmo Council #318, having attained 4th Degree. Steve was very active in local organizations including the Sleepy Hollow Seniors, Tarrytown Seniors and The Senior Nutrition Program.

He is survived by his sons Stephen (Elaine) and Robert (Celia) as well as 2 grandsons. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to his wife Helene, he was predeceased by 7 siblings.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday from 7PM to 9PM and Monday from 2–4 & 7-9 PM. His Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at Transfiguration Church at 10:00 with interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
