Sr. Miriam Poveda, RSHM

Sister Miriam Poveda, RSHM, died at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY, Thursday, April 28, 2016.

Born Jovita Poveda in Bogota, Colombia, on June 6, 1927, to Francisco and Josefa Castaneda Poveda, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary at Marymount in Tarrytown, NY, in 1952

Sister Miriam was a member of the support staff at Marymount College and Marymount High School in Tarrytown and at the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Park Terrace in Manhattan. She was a nurses’ aide at Jewish Memorial Hospital and at Frances Shervier Home and served in the  pastoral care department at Kateri Residence for the Aged.

She is survived by brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews in Colombia and by the members of her religious community.      

Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY. Wake Sunday, May 1, 2016, 3:00 - 7:00 pm, Vigil Service 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, May 2, 10:30 am. Burial Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, 50 Wilson Park Drive, Tarrytown, NY, 10591.
