Sr. Marjorie (Sr. Gailhac) Keenan, RSHM, died at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY, November 14, 2016.

Born in New York City, on July 5, 1929, to William and Marie Therese Mooney Keenan, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Tarrytown, NY in 1949.

Sister Marjorie taught at Marymount School in Neuilly, France and was director of the Marymount College Tarrytown Junior Year Abroad Program there. She was Secretary General of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, assistant to the Executive Director of Justice & Peace for the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, and Secretary General of the World Conference on Religion and Peace/ USA. A member of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace concentrating on issues of peace and disarmament and the environment, she was an Observer for the Holy See Delegation at the United Nations and a senior staff member at the Council’s secretariat in the Vatican. She coordinated research and production of materials related to the historical and spiritual sources of the RSHM.

Predeceased by her parents and her sister Marie Keenan Harrison, she is survived by her nieces, Ann Harrison Kirner and Elizabeth Harrison Langler, her nephew William Harrison, and by the members of her religious community.

Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY. Wake Monday, November 21, 4:30 - 7:30 p.m., Vigil Service 7:30 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, November 22, 10:30 a.m.. Burial Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, 50 Wilson Park Drive, Tarrytown, NY, 10591.
