Sr. Antonio Cobos, RSHM

Sister Antonio Cobos RSHM, (86) died at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY,  July 2, 2015. She had been a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 61 years.

Born Fideligna Garcia Cobos in Soacha, Colombia, on September 8, 1928, to Ambrosio and Natividad Garcia Cobos, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Bogota, Colombia, on August 2, 1952. Shortly afterwards, she moved to the novitiate at Marymount in Tarrytown, NY, where she made her first vows on April 18, 1954.

Sister Antonio remained in Tarrytown and served  at Marymount School and College. In 1956, she returned to Colombia, where she ministered in various support roles in the Marymount Schools in Medellin, Bogota, and Barranquilla.

In 1978, she became a member of the Marymount Convent Community in Tarrytown, helping with the care of the retired sisters. After retiring from active ministry she remained at Marymount Convent where she was living at the time of her death.

She is survived by her sister Blanca Lucila and family in Colombia and by the members of her religious community.

Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY. Wake Tuesday, July 7, 3:00 - 7:30 pm, Vigil Service 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, July 8, 10:30 am. Burial Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, 50 Wilson Park Drive, Tarrytown, NY, 10591.
