Sam N. Amato

Sam (Saverio) N. Amato, 80 of Sleepy Hollow, NY passed away Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012 after a long battle with Heart Disease. Sam was a life-long resident of Elm Street. He was predeceased by his father Saverio, his sister Mary, his mother, Marie Marzella and his three brothers; Morris (wife Anne), Nick and William. He was the last of The Amato Brothers, who were all Carpenters by Trade and belonged to Tarrytown Local #149 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America. They all worked on many commercial and private structures throughout NY and The Tarrytowns over the past 75 years. Sam served in the US Army in Germany and spoke often of his adventures while travelling throughout Europe.

 Never married, Sam was very close to his family and is survived by his Sister-in-Law Irene Amato of Sleepy Hollow, his three Nieces, Sandra Amato (Lou De George) of MD, Sharon Amato Benedict (Thomas) of Florida, Barbara Amato Hartigan (Charles) of CT; his Great Nephew, William McGough of Florida, his Great-Great Niece Jamieson McGough of Florida and Great Niece Lyndsay McGough of Maryland. He will be missed.

Sam was known to talk for hours with friends who resided in Florida and Sleepy Hollow. Special regards to Jay, Whisper, Mike, Hugh, Martin, Sal and others who spent hours talking with him. Although he never lived elsewhere, Sam did travel the United States in his younger years visiting historical sites from Florida to California.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Phelps Hospital Fifth Floor Cardiac Care Unit. Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 PM to 7PM where services will be held on Monday at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
