Miriam V. (Sommerholder) Edwards

Miriam V. Edwards, a lifelong resident of Sleepy Hollow died January 9, 2016 at the age of 87. Born in North Tarrytown on June 12, 1928 she was the daughter of Herman and Virginia Quinn Sommerholder. Miriam graduated from high school, went on to college and in 1952, she married John J. Edwards in St. Teresa’s Church.

In addition to raising her ten children Miriam was a secretary at St. Teresa’s Church for many years where she was a parishioner and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She had also been a member of the Old Mill Singers and had also been a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church.

Miriam is survived by her children John D. of Valhalla, Kenneth of Sleepy Hollow, Ann of N. Carolina, Joseph of Poughkeepsie, Robert of Las Vegas, NV, Maryann Hoblock of Patterson, NY, Christopher of Las Vegas, NV and Janet Fanzolgher of Brewster. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, her sister Ann Dunn of Sleepy Hollow and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John J. Edwards as well as her sons Eugene and Mark and her sisters Therese and Elizabeth.

Miriam’s family would also like to acknowledge and thank her caregiver Claudette Burke for the wonderful care she gave Miriam.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
