Mary Anne (Gavagan) Green

 Mary Anne Green died peacefully on January 6, 2017 surrounded by family and friends after a protracted illness.  Born September 30, 1934 to George and Marcella Gavagan, she grew up in NYC’s Washington Heights, earned a BA from Barnard College and an MA in Education from Columbia University.  She worked as a teacher in the Tenafly, NJ, public schools, before leaving teaching to raise her children.  She served on the President's Council for the Arts at Manhattanville College and was an active and much cherished board member of Barat House,  a program and place of spiritual and intellectual refreshment, also at Manhattanville. She survived her husband, Arthur Leo Green, M.D. (d. 1978), a physician in Mt. Kisco, NY.  She leaves four children, Ellen, Justin (Tim), Marcella and Cornelia, and nine grandchildren, Arthur, Henry, George, Brendan, Timothy, Luke, Michael, Clare and Malachy, and many dear friends.  A wake will be held at the Coffey Funeral Home, 91 N. Broadway, Tarrytown, NY 10591 today, January 8, 2017 at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  A Catholic Funeral Mass will be conducted on January 9 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 199 N. Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 at 10 a.m.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her name to Kids’ Club of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, a charity supporting underserved children, kidsclubtarrytown.org, Kids’ Club of Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow, P.O.
