Joseph Reis, a longtime Ossining resident died January 1, 2018 at the age of 84. Born in Portugal on March 3, 1933, he was the son on John and Beatriz Reis.
Joseph came to the United States as a young man. He lived in Newark, NJ for about 10 years which is where he met and married his wife Fernanda (Alves). They were married on April 17, 1960. While there, he was very active with the Portuguese community in Newark. Joseph later moved to Tarrytown for a few years and settled in Ossining about 53 years ago.
He was retired from General Motors where he had worked for 30 years. He was a member of UAW Local 664. He was also very active in the Portuguese American Cultural Center in Tarrytown.
He is survived by his loving wife Fernanda as well as his loving daughters Linda Rodrigues and Susana D’Emic. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Hi Funeral Mass will be on Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Church at 10:00 with entombment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org would be appreciated.
