Joseph Corveddu, a lifelong resident of Tarrytown died December 14, 2017 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was 88. Born in Tarrytown on September 17, 1929, he was the son of Quirico and Carmela Graci Corveddu.
Joe served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He went on to start his own oil company, Tarry Fuel Oil Co. in 1965. He was able to keep the company going for three generations and counting. He was a life active member of Riverside Hose Company (Engine 80) of the Tarrytown Fire Department. He was a member for over 70 years and served as Chief of the Department. He enjoyed serving his community. He was also a big sports fan and enjoyed golf, fishing, football and boxing. He had also been a coach of softball and football teams for the recreation department.
Joe will forever be remembered by Florence, his wife of 60 years as well as his children Robert, Diane, Barbara Fusca and Karen Beam and his 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Louise Ballas and his brother Vincent (Jimmy) Corveddu and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Thomas, his brothers Frank Abato and Anthony Corveddu and his sister Mary Ricci Rutligan.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4PM to 8PM at Coffey Funeral Home where services will be held on Monday at 10:00 with interment with military honors to follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
