Kelly family, my heart goes out to your entire family for the loss of your loved one.  In my opinion, John Kelly is a hero.  A hero who showed extraordinary heroism in his attempt to save another. His death has touched my heart in a special way, because my 26 year old son died 3 1/2 yr ago, while working, trying to save the life of a co-worker inside a confined space.  Please know that my heart truly aches for you all as it does for Mr. Ruggiero's family.  May God give you His comfort.
Second to my condolences, I am part of a non profit organization of family members who have lost loved ones due to workplace deaths, if we can provide any support or guidance please don't hesitate to contact me/us. www.usmwf.org

John and I met many times at Fire Department activities that I attended with my dad Arthur Kennell, a long time Chaplain of the department.  There is not much I could add to the words I have read and heard about John, but I must share something that again demonstrates the kind of person he was.  We neede a place to celebrate my oldest granddaughter's second birthday and someone offered Riverside Hose Company and told me to contact John.  When I did, he told me not to worry about a thing, that he would have everything ready for us on the date.  Needless to say he went over and beyond what I expected and helped to make the day a joyous one for us all, including him.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the men and women of the Fire Department who were honored to serve with him.  May God Bless you all.

Tribute To Fallen Comrades

Brother when you weep for me, remember that it was meant to be.

Lay me down and when you leave, remember ill be at your sleeve.

In every dark and choking hall ill be there as you slowly crawl.

In every roof in driving snow, ill hold your coat and you will know.

In cellars hot with searing heat, at windows where a gate you meet.

In closets where young children hide, you know I will be at your side.

The house from which I now respond, is over staffed with hero''s gone.

Men who answered that one last bell, did there job and did it well.

As firemen we understand that death is a card dealt in our hand.

A card we hope we never play, but one we hold there anyway.

That card is something we ignore, as we crawl across a weakened floor.

For we know we are the only prayer for anyone who might be there.

So remember as you wipe the tears, the joy I knew throughout the years.

As I did the job I love to do, I pray that though will see you through!

You both will always be remembered, God bless you.

I didn't know John personally but being the granddaughter of Mr. Arthur Kennell (past clergy for the Tarrytown Fire Department) I am sure our paths crossed at some time.  I know were my grandfather alive he would be saddened by John's death but would honor his service and devotion to the department.  Also, as the daughter of parents living in Sleepy Hollow I am thankful for John's dedication to the ambulance corps as their speedy response to my parents needs have been, literally, life saving.  John has joined the ranks of the "Heavenly Guardian Angels".  Rest in Peace.

John, I know you lost your life doing what you've done for many years, helping people. You've been a great friend for at least 34 years. We've had our good times along with rough times, but remained friends to this day. You were like a member of the family. I will miss you very much. May God except you into his house and may your family find peace knowing you're in Heaven. You were and Angel on earth and now an Angel in Heaven. RIP my longtime friend and you will always be in our hearts.
