John Anthony Cancro

John Anthony Cancro, 65, passed away at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY on October 17, 2016 from complications due to an accident.

John was born February 27, 1951 in Tarrytown, NY, the son of Elsie and Frank Cancro. He was a graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School and Westchester Business Institute. He was a long time member of Hope Hose Fire Company in Tarrytown, NY and employed by Barrier Oil Company for about 25 years.

For many years John enjoyed spending time at the family lake house in Middleton, NH, where he enjoyed taking friends waterskiing in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. John was an avid bowler and loved playing board and card games. He was also an animal lover having both dogs and cats throughout his life which gave him great joy. He was a kind, crazy and gentle soul who easily made friends and will always be remembered as a loving and caring son, brother, uncle and friend.

He is predeceased by his father, Frank Cancro and is survived by his mother, Elsie Cancro of Tarrytown, a sister Mary (Paul) Groleau of Hudson, NH, a brother Paul (Jeanne Mary) Cancro of Tarrytown, a sister Peggy Cancro (Lynda McKinnon) of Kalamazoo, MI, nephews, nieces, great niece and nephews, many cousins and friends.

Per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at a later date with the immediate family.
