Dennis McGinnity a longtime Tarrytown resident died September 12, 2015 at the age of 79. Born Thomas Dennis McGinnity in the Bronx, he was the son of Michael James and Kathleen Agnes Murphy McGinnity.
Dennis graduated from St. Ann’s Academy for Boys in 1954 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Iona College in 1958. After college Dennis proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961 and earned the rank of First Lieutenant.
Dennis had a long and rewarding career with IBM. He joined IBM in 1961 in Washington, DC as an OPD Sales Representative. He advanced through the sales and sales management ranks in Connecticut and New York City. He ended his career as the Director of Public Sector Operations in Washington, DC.
Dennis was an avid golfer and was happiest when with his family or near a beach or golf course. He enjoyed his time in Southampton and Ft. Meyers Beach and loved to party with family and friends. He and his wife Marty also travelled extensively.
Dennis is survived by his wife Marty of 30 years and his five children: Erin (Donald) Hinkle of Hot Springs, AK; Colleen McGinnity of Stamford. CT; Michael McGinnity of Boston, MA; Kathleen (William) Dalonzo of O’Fallon, IL and Sheila McGinnity of Stamford, CT. He was also a loving grandfather to Jared and Madison Dalonzo and uncle to many loving nieces and nephews. Dennis is also survived by his sisters Bernadette Shea of Wayne, NJ, Regina Holland of Aberdeen, NJ and Therese McConville of Purdys, NY. He was predeceased by his sister Maureen Smyth.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to Wounded Warriors, American Lung Association or the Lustgarten Foundation would be appreciated.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home 91 North Broadway Tarrytown, NY 10591 on Wednesday from 2- 4 and 6 -9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday at 10:00 at The Church of the Transfiguration 268 South Broadway Tarrytown, NY 10591. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
