Charles V. Ferris, a longtime Tarrytown resident died July 22, 2016 at the age of 97. Born in Peekskill on February 16, 1919, he was the youngest of 14 children of Eugene and Lena Hurto Ferris. He was also the last surviving child.
Charlie married Rose Lenato in St. Teresa of Avila Church. He met Rose after he came to North Tarrytown to work at General Motors. He was a chef there for 40 years until he retired.
Charlie served proudly in the United States Army during WWII. Part of his time was spent in Rhineland. He earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart among several other medals.
Charlie was a Life Member of Rescue Hose of the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department. He was a member of the DAV, the VFW Post 1939 and the American Legion Spencer Kelly Post where he was a Past Commander.
Charlie is survived by his daughter Barbara (Ralph) Ferris-Clevenger of English, IN and his grandson Michael Vincent Clevenger. His wife Rose predeceased him in 1985.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Monday from 4PM to 7PM. His Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at St. Teresa of Avila Church at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
