Alfredo A. Soares

Alfredo A. Soares, a longtime Tarrytown resident died August 10, 2017 at the age of 80. Alfredo was born on August 23, 1936 in Ovar, Portugal. He was the son of Jose Augusto and Rosa Ferreira Aires Soares. He came to the United States in 1978. He worked at General Motors for many years until his retirement.

Alfredo was a member to the Portuguese American Club of Tarrytown and UAW Local 666. He was a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church.

He served in the Armed Forces of Portugal in Angola and in 1964, he married Maria Lourdes Dos Santos in Angola.

Alfredo loved to cook and he will be remembered for his love of all animals. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by Maria, his loving wife of 53 years and his children Angela (Sergio) Pereira and Miguel (Regina) Soares and his grandchildren Kelly, Nicole, Michael, Sofia and Alex. He is also survived by his nieces Nazareth Evans of Tarrytown and Otelinda Nunes of Colonia, NJ as well as many cousins in Portugal. He was predeceased by a son Miguel and several brothers and sisters in Portugal.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. His Funeral Mass will be on Monday at 11:00 at St. Teresa of Avila Church with entombment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
