Aldo Rafanelli

May 4, 1941 ~ May 2, 2016 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Aldo Rafanelli was born in 1941 in Florence, Italy and was the son of Floro Rafanelli and Alda Degli Innocenti. Losing his father at the age of seven due to the war, Aldo lived with his mother and two sisters in Italy. He attended the Agricultural Institute in Florence, and consulted for vineyards in Chianti. He met his wife Camilla Calhoun while she was while traveling in Italy and the two married in 1977. Their first son, Marco, was born in Florence in 1978. They moved to the United States where their second son, Alessandro, was born in 1982.  Aldo worked in wine sales throughout his life in America and became the North American brand ambassador for Antinori wines. Aldo was a witty, generous man with deep intellectual curiosity.  He loved fly-fishing and had many other diverse interests. Among his family and friends in America, he was known as a consummate host and incredible cook. He passed away on May 2, 2016 after a cardiac arrest, two days short of his 75th birthday. He is survived by his older sister Anna Bencini in Florence, his wife Camilla, his sons Alessandro and Marco, his daughter-in-law Christine, and his two grandchildren Leonardo Aldo and Enzo. Aldo’s passion and love for life was boundless, and will be missed by everyone he has touched. A private funeral service will be held at the Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Chappaqua on Saturday, followed by a reception for family and friends at noon in the parish hall.
