Beliefs About
Death
Members believe
that after death each man must come before God in judgement and that
he will be judged according to the deeds done while he lived. After
judgement is pronounced the deceased will spend eternity either in heaven
or hell.
Visitation
Visitation is usually
held for family and friends at the funeral home for a few hours. The
visitation hours precede the funeral service, usually by not more than
one day. Friends and family use this time to pay respects to the immediate
family and view the deceased.
Funeral Service
The funeral is
often held at the deceased's church of worship, with its content generally
determined by the presiding pastor. The pastor presides at the service,
prayers are offered, Scripture is read, and a sermon is preached. Consoling
words will be offered for the bereaving family, reminding them of God's
love for the deceased and His infinite mercy.
Committal
At the graveside
or crematorium the pastor will lead those assembled in prayer and a
scripture reading. Formal but brief words of committal are prayed by
the pastor, establishing a moment of farewell for the bereaved.
